A world-famous racing driver who clinched the World Drivers’ Championship in 2016, Nico Rosberg, yesterday joined the Julius Baer Generation Cup live studio for the celebrity charity chess challenge. Nico Rosberg played against the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen’s computer bot that simulates Carlsen’s play when he was aged 10. Rosberg had two minutes on the clock and lost to 10-year-old Magnus Carlsen bot on time after 18 played moves. Julius Baer donated 100$ per move (a total of 1800$) to “Chess in Slums” organization which helps youngsters in slum communities to realize their full potential through chess training.
Nico Rosberg revealed that he is an avid chess player and that he often played chess with his physical trainer, Michael Schumacher and his other F1 teammates. Earlier this year, we could’ve seen F1’s Mick Schumacher enjoying a chess game with the team of Haas, and it is not the first time we see popular sportsmen keeping their minds sharp by playing chess.
